I Wanted to Tell You Something: Fairytales

After making a foolish mistake, a young maiden finds herself exiled from home, cursed to wander the woods and wastes of fairyland until a stranger says her name. Her journey is perilous, taking her everywhere from the southern fields to the great Void in the land of the North, where danger and destiny collide. She meets many helpers, sojourners, mischief-makers, and counselors along the way, from a talking fox to knights, wood elves, trolls, giants, billy goats, and more.

This modern fairytale book brings back familiar characters with a twist, from Red Riding Hood to the Pied Piper, as our young maiden develops humility and a heart for her people as she traverses the mysterious recesses of the magic-laden woods. Each short, easy-to-read chapter is a thread in the tapestry of the larger story, which culminates in an exciting end. Though originally written for adults, this book is appropriate for readers aged 11 and up, and it’s filled with beautiful black-and-white illustrations that bring the story to life!

Tales of Heroism, Hazards, and Hope

Each episode in this book contains a lesson, just like traditional fairytales. These stories showcase the virtues of kindness, goodness, mercy, and generosity, and warn against vices like selfishness, foolishness, resentment, and greed. While these moral lessons are based on Biblical values, any reader can enjoy the triumph of good over evil, the lost being found, wrongs being made right, and hope being given to those in despair.

Quotes from the Book

Years of wandering the woods and wastelands of this kingdom have taken a toll on me. But I want you to know my story. You need to know what I found in the wilderness.

If I could only tell you how many nights I spent weeping and how many days that I wrung my hands over this fateful error. I had completely forgotten what my grandfather used to say: “Believe the acts of a man over the words of his mouth.”

A hundred year storm, they said. Wind like the fury of heaven. Falling ice like great pelting stones. A surge of water to choke out all life. And it came on so fast that running for shelter was futile. It was unsurvivable.

I always thought enchantments were pronounced clearly and loudly. I never thought they could be cast with a whisper.
